Sun

The Sun breaks forth in glorious rays
Abolishing the darkness of cloud’s grey haze.
Its golden beams light up my face,
Reminding my heart of God’s good grace

Launch

I launched towards a star,
Bold and bright.
Shooting like a rocket
With all my might;
But burned with impact
Full of flame and light

The Assailants of Love

Oh gleaming city so pearly white
Your walls reflect the morning light
The gulls cry over your eastern shores
As all men walk through your open doors

You refuse none who would enter in
Bringing rest and respite to weary kin
That none under your banner should fall
Into a world which takes away all

Lanterns fill your starlit sky
Bringing peace to all nearby
Whilst laughter fills your evening air
Lifting men’s heavy burdens and cares

Upon your ramparts I stood, and watched
The joy and innocence of your thoughts
But as the years passed, by and by,
A darkness filled the western sky

Your assailants, they came pouring in
And crushed your fields under feet so grim
With evil intent and calculated plots-
To crush your walls they everyday sought

You closed your gates to bar the waves
Of hatred and malice and evil ways
And with your gleaming walls so white
You resisted all their open plights

But secretly, they tunneled through
And spread lies about the truth of you
A tangle of webs they maliciously made
To wrap your heart into a cage

Lust and envy so desperately sought
To fill your mind with needless want
Fear tortured you and made you doubt
That from your prison you would get out

They whispered lies so cunning and cruel
But by the Sun your light held through
Till Insecurity tried to cloud your thoughts
And in your mind defeat was wrought

Then hatred – it did bring the rain
To rust the locks which held your gates
And in despair you called yourself “fool”
For there was nothing you could do

The battle seemed lost – your gates worn thin
I cried as your assailants closed in
And as the deepest darkness came
Silence seemed to open like a grave

But then a glimmer did catch my eyes
For in the east the sun did rise
And glisten off a man in white
Who called out against the assailant’s fight

He charged at them with banners raised
While light poured in upon His face
He crushed your assailants underfoot
And from your heart He tore their roots

Open wide He flung your gates
So all may enter by His grace
Into your city – Now bright as day
Welcome now for all to stay

Success

Success is often measured
With the wealth at hand
For little else is treasured
Within the souls of men

And with our gains so pleasured
More power we do seek
For success is often measured
By our power o’er the meek

Some do turn to intellect
And words for cunning speech
For success is sometimes measured
By how eloquently we speak

And with our thoughts so handy
We busy our lives with work
For the gaining of success
Is found in restless burden

With all our worldly ways
We measure up a man
And never once consider
How God created him

For success is measured empty
With a fallen worldly view
But is found in highest standard
When filled with Godly truth

So Let us now consider
How our success should grow
For a man’s success is greatest
When he loves with all his heart can show

Committed

I have committed
There’s no going back
The bearing is set
The wind to my back
The sails have unfurled
In their glorious ways
And the setting sun
Is where I’ve set my gaze

The Message

I sat alone on a grassy knoll
Pondering perplexing prose of old
While breathing in the summers air
And giving up to God my cares

When suddenly a thought grew clear
That I wished not to sit alone here,
And thus was born into my lonely mind
The thought of love so radiantly divine

I wished to see her, I wished to know-
To listen to her life's story unfold
And gaze into her eyes so clear
To feel her heart beating warmly near

But where she was and her name so lovely
Were hidden with no known forthcoming
But her thought had gripped my heart, becoming
A part of me from which there was no running

And when I thought I could no longer wait
For her presence and this love to create
I saw in the distant horizon’s glare
A cloud approaching in the light-blue air

It travelled alone, like my current plight,
Yet soared so free in the sun's golden light
And in that moment I knew without doubt
That like me - in her future it would be found

So as it passed me by so high above
I gave it a message for my distant love,
That hope presses us towards a brand new dawn
And that forevermore in my heart she belongs

The Storm

Oh beauty held in precipitous ways
The clarity of earth is lost in your haze
Your lightning bold, your thunder loud
You are the cause of my astound

The pattern of chaos makes my soul delight
With every drip from heavens flight
And in the cloudiness of your haze
All is shadow and all is day

Plane Flight

Beauty held
By my beleaguered eyes
Blood red and bold
The sun does rise

Excitement swirls
About the white world below
As faces press
To windows close

The Dreamer

The Dreamer hopes
Without cause
He knows
Without pause
He holds
So tightly on
And pulls
For others to come

New

I took some time
To search inside
What little soul
Was left of mine.
I wandered deep
I wandered far
To gather that
Which was left unscarred

So rocky, barren,
Bleak, abused-
The boundaries of the
Black were few,
But up upon
A distant hill
A salient tree
Stood cold and still

I touched its woody,
Blackened side
Looked up and found
To my surprise-
A single leaf
So green and new
Its color brilliant
Against the grayish hue

And with the light
From heaven above
This leaf did spawn
New growth of love,
And from the depths
Of my soul did grow
This life so bold
So beautiful
