I took some time
To search inside
What little soul
Was left of mine.
I wandered deep
I wandered far
To gather that
Which was left unscarred
So rocky, barren,
Bleak, abused-
The boundaries of the
Black were few,
But up upon
A distant hill
A salient tree
Stood cold and still
I touched its woody,
Blackened side
Looked up and found
To my surprise-
A single leaf
So green and new
Its color brilliant
Against the grayish hue
And with the light
From heaven above
This leaf did spawn
New growth of love,
And from the depths
Of my soul did grow
This life so bold
So beautiful
