Feelings of Fall

The first feelings of Fall
Fall on me
Filling me with familiar,
Fond memories.

I find myself falling
Far, far away:
Far from every fearful,
Frantic reality.

And finally I am found
In a freeing fantasy
Surrounded by Fall’s falling
Fragmented leaves.

Join Me, Please

I’m writing. Won’t you
Join me, please?
I find it’s kind of lonely
When I’m dotting i’s and crossing t’s.
We could do it together-
It would be lots of fun.
We could write, while it’s raining,
About the summer sun.
And when it gets too cold outside
We will sit by the fire and read.
Read the words of ancient writers
As they beckon you and me.

I’m writing. Won’t you
Join me, please?
The world is far too empty
When it’s filled with only words by me.
Let us fill it together –
Full of fond memories.
We could write, when it’s summer,
About the Winter’s peace.
And when it gets too full down here
We will look to the stars and dream.
Dream about our future children
As they beckon you and me

A Small Remembrance

How fragile is the life we spend
How small our numbered days
One can hardly understand
How futile is the pursuit of worldly things

With somber grievance we make our dues
To you who lost
What we cannot imagine to lose.
You were cut short of what you thought you had
You lost all, you gave all,
For a bitter end

Your memory now is all that lives
It shall not fade 'till this world ends
Though anger took you on that day
Love will make you forever stay

If

If
Only I
Could touch the
Sky

Maybe
Then I
Would learn to
Fly

But
If I
Give my every
Best

Perhaps
My God
Will provide the
Rest

Likeable Dreams

Sometimes I just like to dream
Of ways to make you smile
For every smile encourages me
To hope a little while

Sometimes I just like to dream
About the way you think.
What do you find interesting?
What do you find neat?

Sometimes I just like to dream
That I am on your mind
But I know this must be far from truth
A hope for different times

Sometimes I just like to dream
Of starry, nighttime skies
And as one falls in a soft blue glow
I see it in your eyes

Sometimes I just like to dream
That you dream the same as I-
That you hope in what I hope for
And give my heart a try

Eyes Closed

The warmth of sunshine splashes on my face
The wind pushes me with its ever growing pace
The leaves skid across like chariots to the race
The cold grips my skin as if I’m being chased

Even without color, the world, still vivid, lies
Ready to inspire - when you open your heart's eyes

Waiting

It was a sunny, hopeful day-
The summer clouds brought pools of shade,
And I sat waiting in my place
With hope and love which could never fade

It was a sunny, blustery day-
The Autumn sky brought winds of change,
And I sat waiting in my place
Determined that patience would bring me grace

It was a cloudy, bitter day-
The winter winds brought icy pain,
And I sat waiting in my place
While bitter cold bit my empty face

It was a cloudy, rainy day-
The springtime rain washed all away,
And I sat waiting in my place
But from my heart all was erased

I waited till I knew not why
I lost what I never intended to find
Like a statue I stood 'till the end of time
While you moved on and lived your life

Purpose

What meaning has this dream of mine?
What reason in its realm?
That it should give me but one key
To open my heart’s well.
But there before me stands in silence
A thousand doors locked tight-
I wake up and realize to my horror
Another day has passed me by

A Woman's Heart

Listen close my dear friend-
Listen to my words.
The heart of a woman is beautiful,
But freer than a bird

You cannot cage It, lest It die,
Nor teach It in your ways;
But give It wings that It may fly,
And soar for all Its days

For when you love her for who she is
And give her, her due praise;
Then she will love you in return-
In the most beautiful of ways

For when a bird in safety flies
It sings a song of love.
Which is echoed back into your lives
From Him who is above

So listen now all you who feel
That love has lost its stay-
Give freedom to your dove’s dear heart
That He may show the way

Happening Again

It’s happening again,
But this time my feelings
Feel so worn thin,
And I wish I knew what
Was expected of me
So that I wouldn’t let you down-
Or miss opportunity

Now I have eyes to see.
Unfortunately I found
It’s too late for me.
Perhaps it is better
To just let it be,
But I never knew
What you thought of me

One Less

If you looked into the sky tonight
Wondering why your world is in plight.
Wondering if your thoughts are heard
Hoping for those hopeful words

Then know that I listened
Know that I cared.
Though I cannot see you
My heart was right there

Because I did the same,
I pondered on life.
I wished for a day
When there would be light

And I thought of you dearly
With as much hope as I had-
Because every night passing
Is one less to be sad

The Tear

With impregnable fortitude of heart he stood. His mind and soul had weathered all the schemes that this earth could thrust upon him, and even those which hell itself had seemed to spout out. But at the sight of one tear falling down her weathered, rosy cheek, his world fragmented into a thousand pieces for which no hope of recollection could be found — save but by the thought that if he could bring her a lifetime of happiness, he might reverse and make penance for the crime of this one tear.

I Sent You a Message

I sent you a message
On a shooting star
Because I know not
Where you are

But thought that this
Falling star might know
Because like you
It has a radiant glow.

I sent you a message
On the waves of the sea
Because like water
You're life to me

I pushed them back
Into the great, big blue
Hoping they would wash
Ashore to you.

I sent you a message
On a wisp of wind
Because I cannot touch
Your skin

I gave it a kiss
To place on your cheek
And a warm embrace
To give you heat.

I sent you a message
In a flower red
Because of your beauty-
What can be said?

How can beauty
Ever find this soul
Until it has seen one
Such as yours?

The Night Pianist: A Short Story - Part 1

Her beleaguered eyes found no solace in closing. Instead, the empty apparitions of the night haunted her lonely and pensive soul. Silence pursued her with fiery vengeance for every word she had spoken, or left unspoken. Stillness clawed her heart for every idle moment and every misplaced step she had unfortunately wrought. Darkness burned her mind for every deep and shallow thought she had dared to think. Thus the night had chained her, petrified, upon the bed of her remorse.

But then a sound, barely distinguishable from the silence surrounding her, played in a long, beautiful note. It was softly, but purposefully, joined by others until a graceful and placid harmony was formed. As each note peacefully echoed into her ear, the bonds of the sepulchral night were shattered from her mind

Her feet lightly touched the cold wooden floor as she soundlessly glided down the hallway towards the author of her freedom. She arrived at the open doorway of the study and stood breathlessly as her eyes beheld the display. A lone figure sat at the piano, gently pressing its ivory keys. His face was illuminated by the glow from the full moon, which shone through a large window. The entire room was basked in luminescence and shadow.

She stood and watched, not daring to interrupt such an ethereal scene, fearing that even the slightest disturbance would break its link to her reality. Every second passed as an eternity – holding all the history, beauty, and depth that a soul could contain. The bookcases which lined the wall seemed to grow taller as they reached into shadows untouched by the moon’s illumination. They stood as sober and salient guards of the knowledge and wisdom contained within their chests. Against the wall opposite her stood an erect and lonely clock, its face scantly lit by the reflection of the moon atop the polished piano. The pianist seemed to play with the tick of the second hand, as if time were the very meter of his heart and mind.

And then – Silence.

The Plan

Come my dear son
I will show you now
The ways I have made
Your heart to abound

Let us work together
On My glorious plan
I will show you how
My hand on your hand

Worry yourself not
That you are misled
For I made the path
By which your heart is led

Haiku

Rain, snow, sleet, and ice
Wintery mixes of God’s device
Come falling on me

I perceive
But do not hope
I dream
But do not know
I listen
But make no sound
I watch
But am not found

Cloudy Grey

Cloudy grey, Cloudy grey
Silence settles like the grave.
Buildings grow taller
As sky closes in.
The lantern and lamppost
Become my new friends

Time to Time

I think of you
From time to time
And wonder if your passing gaze
Looks beautifully into heavens maze
Upon the eternal stars that shine
And finds them beautiful
As do I

I think of you
From time to time
Are you laughing with your smile divine?
Are you living life with love so sweet?
Are you sleeping with dreams
So interesting and neat?

I think of you
From time to time
And wonder when our meet divine
Will Cause our worlds
To wonderfully collide
And we will see
Each other’s eyes

I think of you
From time to time
And wonder if your heart, like mine,
Knows something is missing
Deep inside
And thinks of me
From time to time

Can I?

My heart cries out

Can I be found
In this nebulous haze
Of broken stars
And endless days?

Can I be seen
By perfect eyes
Since my heart
In darkness lies?

Can I be heard
Beyond the noise
Of meaningless words
From an empty voice?

Can I be known
For who I am
Without the worry
Of who I’ve been?

I hear a reply

You are found
I searched through it all
I took your hand
And brought you home

You are seen
You cannot now hide
For even in the dark
The stars will shine

You are heard
I know your voice
The world cannot drown you
In petty white noise

You are known
I made you by hand
I’ll trade your past
For the future I have

Sun

The Sun breaks forth in glorious rays
Abolishing the darkness of cloud’s grey haze.
Its golden beams light up my face,
Reminding my heart of God’s good grace

Launch

I launched towards a star,
Bold and bright.
Shooting like a rocket
With all my might;
But burned with impact
Full of flame and light

The Assailants of Love

Oh gleaming city so pearly white
Your walls reflect the morning light
The gulls cry over your eastern shores
As all men walk through your open doors

You refuse none who would enter in
Bringing rest and respite to weary kin
That none under your banner should fall
Into a world which takes away all

Lanterns fill your starlit sky
Bringing peace to all nearby
Whilst laughter fills your evening air
Lifting men’s heavy burdens and cares

Upon your ramparts I stood, and watched
The joy and innocence of your thoughts
But as the years passed, by and by,
A darkness filled the western sky

Your assailants, they came pouring in
And crushed your fields under feet so grim
With evil intent and calculated plots-
To crush your walls they everyday sought

You closed your gates to bar the waves
Of hatred and malice and evil ways
And with your gleaming walls so white
You resisted all their open plights

But secretly, they tunneled through
And spread lies about the truth of you
A tangle of webs they maliciously made
To wrap your heart into a cage

Lust and envy so desperately sought
To fill your mind with needless want
Fear tortured you and made you doubt
That from your prison you would get out

They whispered lies so cunning and cruel
But by the Sun your light held through
Till Insecurity tried to cloud your thoughts
And in your mind defeat was wrought

Then hatred – it did bring the rain
To rust the locks which held your gates
And in despair you called yourself “fool”
For there was nothing you could do

The battle seemed lost – your gates worn thin
I cried as your assailants closed in
And as the deepest darkness came
Silence seemed to open like a grave

But then a glimmer did catch my eyes
For in the east the sun did rise
And glisten off a man in white
Who called out against the assailant’s fight

He charged at them with banners raised
While light poured in upon His face
He crushed your assailants underfoot
And from your heart He tore their roots

Open wide He flung your gates
So all may enter by His grace
Into your city – Now bright as day
Welcome now for all to stay

Success

Success is often measured
With the wealth at hand
For little else is treasured
Within the souls of men

And with our gains so pleasured
More power we do seek
For success is often measured
By our power o’er the meek

Some do turn to intellect
And words for cunning speech
For success is sometimes measured
By how eloquently we speak

And with our thoughts so handy
We busy our lives with work
For the gaining of success
Is found in restless burden

With all our worldly ways
We measure up a man
And never once consider
How God created him

For success is measured empty
With a fallen worldly view
But is found in highest standard
When filled with Godly truth

So Let us now consider
How our success should grow
For a man’s success is greatest
When he loves with all his heart can show

Committed

I have committed
There’s no going back
The bearing is set
The wind to my back
The sails have unfurled
In their glorious ways
And the setting sun
Is where I’ve set my gaze

The Message

I sat alone on a grassy knoll
Pondering perplexing prose of old
While breathing in the summers air
And giving up to God my cares

When suddenly a thought grew clear
That I wished not to sit alone here,
And thus was born into my lonely mind
The thought of love so radiantly divine

I wished to see her, I wished to know-
To listen to her life's story unfold
And gaze into her eyes so clear
To feel her heart beating warmly near

But where she was and her name so lovely
Were hidden with no known forthcoming
But her thought had gripped my heart, becoming
A part of me from which there was no running

And when I thought I could no longer wait
For her presence and this love to create
I saw in the distant horizon’s glare
A cloud approaching in the light-blue air

It travelled alone, like my current plight,
Yet soared so free in the sun's golden light
And in that moment I knew without doubt
That like me - in her future it would be found

So as it passed me by so high above
I gave it a message for my distant love,
That hope presses us towards a brand new dawn
And that forevermore in my heart she belongs

The Storm

Oh beauty held in precipitous ways
The clarity of earth is lost in your haze
Your lightning bold, your thunder loud
You are the cause of my astound

The pattern of chaos makes my soul delight
With every drip from heavens flight
And in the cloudiness of your haze
All is shadow and all is day

Plane Flight

Beauty held
By my beleaguered eyes
Blood red and bold
The sun does rise

Excitement swirls
About the white world below
As faces press
To windows close

The Dreamer

The Dreamer hopes
Without cause
He knows
Without pause
He holds
So tightly on
And pulls
For others to come

New

I took some time
To search inside
What little soul
Was left of mine.
I wandered deep
I wandered far
To gather that
Which was left unscarred

So rocky, barren,
Bleak, abused-
The boundaries of the
Black were few,
But up upon
A distant hill
A salient tree
Stood cold and still

I touched its woody,
Blackened side
Looked up and found
To my surprise-
A single leaf
So green and new
Its color brilliant
Against the grayish hue

And with the light
From heaven above
This leaf did spawn
New growth of love,
And from the depths
Of my soul did grow
This life so bold
So beautiful
